Blue Finn Limited-Production Wooden Boat
Why are we building these boats? Just because they are so cool!
Based on demand, we are making a limited supply of the Blue Finn wooden boats as seen on CBS/Netflix's 2019 season of Dynasty. We are only making 50 of these boats. After 50 boats, we will destroy the forms and retire the design. Order yours now.
For sale by the craftsman is a salty wooden boat perfect for exploring hidden marshes, sailing forbidden seas, or landing on barbarous coasts.
This is Blue Finn, a cedar strip wherry inspired by boats of the 19th Century which frequented the shores of New England and had as their provenance the Thames River in old England. Blue Finn is so named as the lines are reminiscent of a particular bluefin tuna caught off the coast of Charleston Bay in South Carolina by the infamous Sea Captain Jimmy Klavohn of Mount Pleasant.
The original Blue Finn had a vee-shaped hull with soft bilges making it quite stable in rough seas and surf. The experienced rower will appreciate the low wet surface area making pulling a breeze. Though the beginner might be intimidated by the low initial stability, make no mistake, this boat will settle on its reserve stability and there inspire confidence - not unlike the Sea Captain himself. The slight rocker and kickup rudder make launching Blue Finn a civilized endeavor even from the most barbarous coasts.
The limited-production version of Blue Finn includes a few revisions to the original. Those include removable thwart seats for easier maintenance, a little more rocker for better sailing, a flat bottom for more initial stability, lower gunwales, and a bit more deck to keep spray out. These design revisions will keep the classic look of the original but make the boat a little more user-friendly.
Materials include western red cedar for the hull, solid mahogany for the rudder, solid ash for the thwarts, and douglas fir for the gunwales all coated in marine epoxy and fiberglass sheathing inside and out for extra durability and rigidity. Naturally, all surfaces are top coated with oil-based enamel paint or marine varnish. This boat will stand up to sun, wind, and wave for decades of enjoyment. Proper maintenance will ensure it is an heirloom for the next captain and his mates.
Completing this handcrafted boat is its own novelty bug spray inspired by Captain Jimmy's bluefin tuna and noted to repel bugs and attract fish. The potion is rumored to also attract girls though the boat manages the task on its own.
For those who prefer a less prosaic description, here are technical specifications:
Sail area: 42 square feet (landlubbers and shipwrights) to 105 square feet (only for the boldest sea captain)
